What is an ASIN?
By bezprice-redactie · Published on 28 August 2026 · Last reviewed on 28 August 2026
An ASIN is the product number Amazon assigns to a product. It belongs to one specific version: a particular colour, size or capacity usually has its own ASIN.
That's handy for price comparison: the same ASIN across different European Amazon stores usually points to the same item, while searching by product name quickly turns up a different variant.

What does an ASIN look like?
An ASIN usually consists of ten characters: digits and capital letters, often starting with a B. A fictional example of that structure is B0XXXXXXXX. Not sure you have the right code? Just paste the full product link; bezprice will extract the code itself.
Where do you find the ASIN?
- In the product link, right after /dp/ or /gp/product/ — for example amazon.de/dp/B0XXXXXXXX (fictional code).
- In the product information or product details block near the bottom of the Amazon product page.
- For some products, also in the technical specifications.
You don't need to type out the code by hand: copy the link from the address bar or the share button and paste it into the search bar.
ASIN, EAN/GTIN and product title
- ASIN: Amazon's own number, linked to one version in the Amazon catalogue.
- EAN or GTIN: the manufacturer's international barcode, also used outside Amazon.
- Product title: free text that can differ per store and seller, including language and additions.
Because titles vary, we compare by ASIN. If titles differ significantly between stores, we flag that on the product page so you can check for yourself whether it's the same version.
Recognising the ASIN in different Amazon links
Amazon uses several URL formats for the same product. In almost every case, the code sits right after a recognisable bit of the path. The examples below deliberately use a fictional code.
- amazon.nl/dp/B0XXXXXXXX — the shortest form.
- amazon.de/gp/product/B0XXXXXXXX — an older variant with the same principle.
- amazon.fr/Product-Name-With-Dashes/dp/B0XXXXXXXX/ref=... — the code comes after /dp/, the rest can be dropped.
- amzn.eu/d/XXXXXXX — a shortened share link; open it first so the full product link becomes visible.
You don't need to clean anything up: paste the whole link into the search bar and we'll extract the code. If that doesn't return a result, the link probably isn't a product link.
Safely copying a product link
- Open the product page of the item you want to compare.
- Copy the link from your browser's address bar, or use the share button in the Amazon app.
- Paste the link into bezprice and check that the product name shown matches what you meant.
Don't paste a link from your account, basket, order history or an emailed order confirmation. Such links can contain personal data and don't belong in a search field.
Spotting a wrong or unusable code
- The code is shorter or longer than ten characters, or contains punctuation or spaces.
- You've accidentally copied an EAN or barcode number: that's digits only and won't work as an ASIN.
- The code comes from a search results page or category page rather than a product page.
- The product found has a different variant than you expected: go back to the product page and pick the right version first.
- No result comes up: check that you really pasted a product link and try the full link instead of just the code.
If the code is right but the titles differ a lot between stores, read how to compare versions between stores before you order.
Only paste a product link
Don't share links from your account, order history or email confirmations. These can contain personal data. A plain product link or a bare ASIN is enough.
You can read how we handle data in our privacy policy.
Does the same ASIN work in every European store?
Usually yes: the same ASIN in the various European Amazon stores generally points to the same item. That's not a guarantee, though. A product can be in the catalogue in one store and not another, or be supplied by a different seller there.
- If we don't find an offer in a store, we say so instead of showing something that isn't there.
- If the product is listed, check that the variant matches what you're looking for.
- If in doubt, the specification table on the Amazon product page is the authority, not the title.
