Why Amazon prices differ by country

By bezprice-redactie · Published on 28 August 2026 · Last reviewed on 28 August 2026

The same product can have a different price at Amazon.de, .nl, .fr, .it, .es and .se. That's not a mistake, nor a fixed rule: it's the result of how Amazon and its sellers operate per country.

Below are the causes that matter most in practice, and what you can do with them when comparing.

Local pricing and VAT

Every store sets its own selling price. That includes that country's VAT rate, but also choices about margin, competition and demand. So two stores with the same VAT rate can still show different prices.

Currency: the Swedish exception

Five of the six stores we compare price in euros. Amazon.se prices in Swedish krona. We convert that price to euros and show the source price and the exchange rate used, so you can see how the figure is calculated. You pay Amazon in that store's currency; your bank may charge its own costs.

Seller and stock

Behind an offer is either Amazon itself or a third-party seller. Who supplies the offer differs per country and sometimes changes daily. Stock levels also play a role: limited stock or high demand can show different prices than ample availability.

Version and variant

Sometimes the price difference is explained by it not being exactly the same item: a different bundle, a different plug or a region-specific version. So check the product details; our explainer on the ASIN helps with that.

Temporary price changes

Amazon prices change regularly, sometimes several times a day. A difference you saw this morning can be smaller, or bigger, this afternoon. That's why every price we show carries the time we retrieved it.

Shipping and the final price

A lower item price doesn't automatically mean a lower final price. Shipping costs are only calculated at checkout; see shipping costs at European Amazon stores.

A large part of the difference comes from VAT rates per country. Exactly how that works, and when import duties apply, is covered in VAT and customs when ordering from Amazon within Europe.

How fresh is bezprice's data?

  • Every price shows the date and time it was retrieved.
  • We don't show data older than 24 hours; it gets retrieved again.
  • If retrieval fails, we say so instead of showing an outdated price.
  • We don't store or show price history, and we don't offer price alerts.

Always check the current terms, availability and total price directly with Amazon before you order.

Bundles, multipacks and promotional sets

Some price differences between countries aren't down to pricing at all, but to the offer being put together slightly differently. Stores carry their own bundles: a set of two, a version with an extra accessory, or a pack with a different quantity.

  • Check the number of units per pack before putting prices side by side.
  • For electronics, watch for included accessories, cables and adapters.
  • A promotional set can be temporary and disappear from the range afterwards.

What the timestamp on a price means

Every price we show states when we retrieved it. That timestamp isn't a detail — it's how you should judge the value of the figure: the more recent, the more likely the amount still holds.

  • We don't show data older than 24 hours; it gets retrieved again.
  • If retrieval fails for a store, we say so instead of showing an old amount.
  • We don't store or show price history, and we don't send price alerts.
  • The price on Amazon at the moment you buy is always what counts.

Checklist: is it the same version?

Before treating a price difference as a real difference, it's worth confirming you're looking at the same item twice.

  1. Same ASIN in both stores.
  2. Same model number or type designation in the specifications.
  3. Same variant: colour, size, capacity or power.
  4. Same package contents and quantity.
  5. Comparable seller: Amazon itself or a third-party seller.
  6. Delivery to your address is possible, with an acceptable delivery time.
